Frequently Asked Questions

  • Train Pro Dogs has served the Gulf Coast area for more than 10 years, earning the title “Best Pet Trainer” four years in a row. Our trainers bring a wealth of knowledge to our programs. We stay current with the latest training techniques through regular participation in conferences and continuing education programs. Many of our staff have placed their personal dogs in statewide and national awards in a variety of high-level competitions. One of our trainers has the number one dog in the state of Florida in both high protection and high obedience.

Our services include group classes, private lessons, and a popular board-and-train program. We prefer puppies to be at least ten weeks of age and no dog is too old. We address behaviors such as reactivity, leash pulling, counter surfing, excessive barking, jumping up, house-breaking, reliable recalls (on and off-leash), confidence building, and separation anxiety. Our programs are designed to instill good habits early on, preventing the development of bad habits.

As balanced trainers, our unique training philosophy involves converting obedience commands into “working jobs,” which taps into dogs’ natural drive and intelligence. We create a training atmosphere where dogs get to work for their humans. We avoid treat-based luring and authoritarian approaches, instead fostering a highly positive environment where dogs enjoy learning. Our training is tailored to address specific behaviors and needs, utilizing evidence-based methods with verbal and physical praise.

The board and train program is our most popular offering, including two weeks of intensive training at a real home, followed by six months of post-boarding support. Dogs live with our professional staff, receiving daily training, socialization, and field trips. The training program also focuses on teaching and proofing new skills including a comprehensive transition process to ensure owners are confident in maintaining the training at home. Our human training begins during the program’s second week. Take-home lessons are given when the dogs go home so that the humans feel confident taking the leash in maintaining the dog’s new awesome behaviors! Post-program support then includes advanced weekly obedience classes and unlimited one-on-one help as needed for a full six months.

We get it! Boarding programs are not right for everyone. Private lessons or group classes can be great options.

Consistency is crucial in our training approach, so your dog will primarily work with one dedicated trainer. However, occasional involvement of other trainers may occur to provide a well-rounded social experience.

We do not operate in a traditional kennel facility but in a comfortable single-family home with professional dog trainers that live on-site. Years of research have proven that dogs learn best in an environment similar to where they live. The property features an acre and a half of fenced land, seven different socialization and training yards, and a full agility course. The converted garage, known as the Den, provides kennel space for board-and-train dogs, offering a more home-like environment than typical boarding facilities.
